What is Digital Evangelism
Over time you might have come across the term “digital evangelism” “internet evangelism” “online evangelism’ and other related terms. They all mean the same thing, just different words being used.
Digital Evangelism is proclaiming the Good news in the digital world. We have a new world, the digital world. This is where people spend most of their time, especially those that have access to mobile phones.
The advent of the internet advanced technology from the use of mass media to digital communications. Proceeding to the gospel, mass media played a great role in advancing the gospel. People like Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, the founder of Christian Broadcasting Network, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the first televangelist and the contemporary Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church amongst others have used the mass media as a tool for evangelism.
Though the mass media still plays an important role in spreading the gospel, there is a more excellent way, which is the internet world.
It is first evangelism before it is digital.
Evangelism is showing and telling the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to people as the apostles did in the Bible. It is about the death and the resurrection of Jesus.
The digital world has given us the opportunity to do this efficiently utilizing tools like social media, Google and other internet tools.
Digital evangelism, internet evangelism, online evangelism as we prefer to call it in simple terms is the showing and telling the gospel (the birth, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ) in the digital world.
When I say the digital world, I refer to the world that facilitates connectivity and communication through the internet, smart devices and other digital devices,
People are connecting all over the world more than ever, the population in the digital world is over 3 billion, and this is almost half of the world’s population. It is increasing every day as new innovations arise.
Social media which encompasses a larger share of the digital world is advancing every day with new features. New platforms are emerging every day, the existing ones are bringing in creating more innovations.
In the post, what is Facebook Evangelism? We discussed certain opportunities the digital world has provided us and how we can make use of those opportunities on Facebook.
We might want to ask, ‘what is our stand?’
As believers, we have the greatest opportunity to reach people for Christ more than ever. We all see a large number of unreached souls when we visit social media platforms.
The instruction of Jesus was
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age: Matthew 28:19-20
The Gospel should be taken to, wherever man can be found.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
Myths of Digital Evangelism
However, there are some myths of digital evangelism we would love to debunk.
- It is not an effective way of evangelism
- I need to possess a digital skill
- The internet is the devil’s invention
- It requires huge money or resources to begin
- Social media updates are Digital Evangelism
- Digital evangelism will replace the traditional way of evangelism

How can we do Digital Evangelism?
We have numerous methods of carrying out digital evangelism in many ways. There are many strategies we can use. I will be mentioning 6 of them in this lesson

Digital evangelism (online evangelism, internet evangelism) is an effective way of doing evangelism and we must understand that it does not pose a threat to traditional evangelism.
We must use this opportunity to talk about Jesus, our churches must be intentional about using these platforms to preach Jesus to the ends of the earth.
